“She sat beside me on the bus – and she changed my whole life.”
Successful, wealthy and absurdly handsome – Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles seemed like he had it all. A high-society wife, an adorable little girl, and flashy apartments in Madrid and Barcelona only sweetened the deal. But there was more to Mateo than met the eye – a life of uncertainty and regret that colored his black and white world.
That was until Vera Miles came into his life like a shooting star. Tattooed, wild and young, Vera seemed like Mateo’s polar opposite at first. But you can’t choose who you fall
in love with and the two lost souls did everything they could to be together, all while suffering the grave consequences.
Now with Mateo divorced and living in Madrid with Vera, there is a whole new set of challenges and setbacks facing the couple and rocking the foundation of their star-crossed relationship.
Unfortunately for them, the brighter the star, the faster they burn.
Krystle’s 5 Star Review!
**Warning, this review may have slight spoilers from Love, in English. Just as I wouldn’t recommend reading Love, in Spanish without reading Love, in English first I also wouldn’t recommend reading this review…and if you haven’t read LiE yet, what the heck are you waiting for?! Love, in Spanish by Karina Halle let’s us have some time in the mind of Mateo who we all met and fell in love with in Love, in English. Mateo and Vera are hands down one of my favorite book couples and getting more of their story made my year! What made this book different than other male POV stories is that instead of it just being a retelling of the same story we got an insight into a period of time we hadn’t yet seen. This story shows the aftermath of the decisions made in Love, in English and brings you on a highly emotional journey. If you enjoyed LIE I highly recommend diving into this one so you can fall in love with Mateo all over again!
…life doesn’t always hand you things in a neat package. It dollops them out here and there in messy, confusing splatters, and when you see something amazing, you better drop what you’re doing and hold on with two hands.
In LiS we are thrown into the turbulance that Mateo and Vera’s life has become after they made the decision to follow their hearts instead of letting all of the reasons that could have kept them apart interfere with their love for one another. Starting a relationship with someone while still married to another person is never easy for anyone. Add in a pretty significant age difference, cultural differences AND moving Vera to another country and you pretty much have a recipe for disaster. This book shows a lot of the bumpy road they were forced to endure and we find out if love really can conquer all or if sometimes love just isn’t enough.
To me, Mateo and Vera are pretty much impossible not to love. Both of them are so real. They are flawed and broken but also both equally awesome in their own ways. Both of these characters wear their hearts on their sleeve. They fight hard, play hard and above all else love hard. In my opinion it is so refreshing to read about characters that aren’t perfect. Although many of my favorite books are about these perfectly put together people Karina’s books all hold a special place in my heart because of the many different ways I can relate to her characters.
Thank you, Karina, for this wonderful companion novel! Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly love Mateo and Vera any more you proved me wrong.
5 stars for Mateo & Vera!
You’re my star. How many people on this earth have that, their own star? And you shine just for me. How could anyone else ever compare to this?
