Happy Release Day to K.A. Linde!

Synopsis:
Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

Krystle’s 4 Star Review

Off the Record was another job well done by K.A. Linde. With its unique storyline and easy-to-love characters I really enjoyed this book. Although I found the beginning a little slow for my liking once it picked up a bit I was hooked. As the book progressed it ended up being really well-paced and I found myself flying through dying to know where the story would take me.

My favorite part of this book was the two main characters Brady and Liz. Brady is a charismatic politician that you just can’t help but love. Although sometimes it was a bit of a love/hate relationship for me overall I really enjoyed reading about him. Liz is different than a lot of female MCs that are out there. She is mouthy and she is bright with a strong head on her shoulders. She does show vulnerability at times and she has her faults but she isn’t completely clueless and acknowledges that some of her decisions may end up causing her pain. She owns the situation she put herself in and although I feel for her I really admire some of her qualities and appreciate reading about a character that isn’t all “boo.freaking.hoo!”

Both Liz and Brady are very passionate people. They are both very passionate about their work and future goals. They are both very career driven and have their eyes on what they want in the future. That being said they are also very passionate about each other and this is where the problem comes in. Neither one expected this kind of bump in the roads to their long-term goals. Their feelings for each other leave them both questioning what to do about this “forbidden” relationship.

The “forbidden” relationship is what made this story what it was. This wasn’t a complete angst fest like I have read from Linde before but it definitely had its moments. The angst was always lingering…it would get you all nerved up just the right amount and then loosen its grasp and let you breathe. It wasn’t a insta-love situation filled with tons of craziness…it was more like realistic insta-lust. Developments in their relationships were believable and took time.

I think Kyla did a good job with book one and left this story off in a great place. It’s not a complete cliff hanger but it definitely left me DYING for book 2! I’m not gonna lie, I’m pretty sad that we have to wait for August for it but I have a feeling book 2 is going to be even better than the first and it will be worth the wait.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
